Question for the week of Jan 24th-28th.

Radical Republicans used the 15th Amendment and the "Negro" vote to help Ulysses S. Grant become elected as the next US President after Andrew Johnson was impeached and removed from office.

Read the following US Government primary resource and explain rather you think this was acceptable and should this type of persuasion (to try and convince someone of something you want them to do) be allowed today.  Questions are also allowed if you do not fully understand the question.

No I don't think this is acceptable or should be used today.I would say it was because it's cheating, but what haven't polititions done? And at least if you're going to do it, don't appoint someone who takes bribes and would know better than to be around criminals. And just because he did some good things in the military does not mean he would be a good president. And the phrasing of the question is kinda confusing.

True it is a little confusing but I do like your answer. If you can think of a better way to word this please comment and I'll make the change. By the way since you are first you will get your 10 points when you comment on someone else's post and there will be some type of other treat for you being first. Thanks, Coach Herring

I think that what happen is ok. I believe that the republicans did what had to be done. However, I think that when president Grant put familial members he was doing something wrong.

I kinda agree with you Jeffrey, Grant could have picked some better people to be around. But if out of everyone they picked Grant, I don't want to think about what the other options were like. I mean he didn't even graduate top of his class, and though I know grades didn't have to do much with being president, it's not exactly comforting. I mean what if they picked a guy to be president with a C average?....wait wasn't that Bush? And well, Bush wasn't exactly popular.

Mr. Herring I think you put "....explain whether you think this was acceptable or not. Do you think this type of persuasion should be used today?"

I think it'd make a bit more sense.

I believe the use of the 15th amendment and the vote of the African Americans to help Ulysses S. Grant become elected was essential and at the time, was acceptable. However, the times have indeed changed, and in no form could this be acceptable now.

I just wanted to share this and I hope some of you will check it out. Visit: http://strickland2011.com
I hope this shows you what you can do... James is a former student of mine. He took many of the same type of test and loved all the demands I put on students as much as you do. Now look at him... you can do this and more too.

I agree with Kimberly because the question is confusing. I read the article and then looked at this question and didn't understand what the question was asking.

I reworded the question. It's one of my comments, maybe it will help you a bit more.

Justin I agree that they did what had to be done.
