I would use the presidesal plan. I would use it because it required only 10% of the south to swear allegations to the union. This would be easyer and wouldn't cause many problems.

Jeffery since you were the first to comment you will receive not 10 but 20 extra credit points tomorrow on our quiz. BTW: Great Answer

What do the rest of you think? Is he right or are there other reasons for this plan or the Congressional Plan?

I think the Lincoln Plan should be used. It should be used because then 10% is alot because slaves counted as people now and could vote. This would be able to give the states that had 10% a chance to send people to Congress to express the states thoughts. It would also solve all the Slavery problems. I guess.

Imami I agree that the presidensal plan would solve slave problems.

thank you. You made a good point about it making it easier because all you have to agree, but would they go back to the slavery after getting what they wanted or was given?

I say Licolns plan because it only caused 10% of a southern state population had to swear to joining the Union. Also a state had to outlaw slavery to be readmitted into the Union.

I think Jeffery is correct that the Presidential plan should be used. It helped slaves become free and it ended the war quickly.

I vote for using the presidential plan because it's focusing on ending the war in order to put the country together. In order for the South to get better economically, they would need to be on better terms with the North. I think the Congressional plan would worsten tension between both sides because it forces too many requirements on the South at once. Although, I do agree with some of the requirements for the congressional plan, I think those things could come later once the South gets back on its feet. (I hope what I just said makes sense lol)

Yup so I agree with bethany for Lincoln's plan. It only asks for 10 percent of the south to swear allegiance so it doesn't force much on citizens; therefore avoiding too much conflict.

Great job guys I really like what I am seeing. All of you make very good points. The truth is there is no right or wrong answer here and that one of them had to be tried because something had to happen. What do the rest of you think?

I liked lincolns plan it made just 10% swear which freed slaves and it helped end the war

I agree with Jeffery, Lincoln's plan was brilliant, to only have 10% of the South's vote. This was GREAT for the North. I disagree with Jeffery also, because it would create problems. It would tick off the Southern plantation owners. (i can't think of a question)

I think maybe they should have done something to combine both plans because they both have their strong and weak points. The thing the Presidential plan had going for it was that it only needed 10% of the vote from every state so it would bring the union together faster but Johnson didn't really follow that plan much after that because he pardoned the wealthy southerners really quickly considering they were some of the reason the war started and when Congress wasn't in session, South Carolina passed the Black Codes and voted former Confederates into Congress. Wasn't there anything Johnson could have done? Or was he on vacation too? The thing I like about the Congress plan was that they were trying to protect the rights of the newly freed slaves a bit more wholeheartedly than Johnson(considering he vetoed the Freedman's bill) but the annoying thing about it was that Republicans were still concerned about protecting their own political power. And I do agree with Natalie that the Presidential plan would not have made the Southern Plantation owners very happy.

I would have used the Presidential Plan. I would have used this plan because it would have made the South not as mad. It might have prevented another civil war.

Cody Ross said...

I agree with Imani because it would have ended slavery and would have made the South not as mad.

i would choose the presidensal plan. i would choose this plan because, the state must recongnize the end of slavery to be readmitted. but im going to agree with Jeff , because what he said about requiring only 10% of the south to swear allegations to the union. i would also choose this plan because of that. -jazmin blandin

I totally think that the Lincon Plan should be used. This plan should be used because no one could denie the 13th Amendment. it should also be used because having 10% of the states population pleadge alligence to the Confereacy keeps a lot of confusion down.

Chelsi I agree with you reguarding ending the war and pulling the country together. I also agree with Natalie this plan was totally brilliant!! I also agree with Imani, with the slaves kept alot of tension down.

Natalie, I believe agree with both you and Jeffery's side. It's obviously the only sensible solution. The only way to end a war is by a peaceful resolution. Military enforcement seems like it'd just get too messy.

Justin Barnett said...

I believe that the I would use the PRESIDENTIAL plan. Only 1/10 of the South would have to pledge loyalty to the Union, and I'm sure that there are enough people in the south that support that slavery is wrong. Besides, how moral is it to enforce your laws with military force? How in the Land Of The Free, could someone put a gun to your head and make you follow "their" rules, and no one would step up to defend you. The Southeners have lived this way of life for the longest of times and for them to instantaneously change is impossible. People need time to adapt, without someone ready to pull a trigger on them.

I'm very proud of all of you. Keep it coming. The new question will be posted today by 5PM. Look forward to your thoughts and comments. Have a great day. Coach Herring
